I have a '79 Hunter 27 with a Yanmar 1gm engine. The transmission is bad.... I have been seeking a used/ rebuilt transmission recently. It would be nice to retain the inboard, however is there a recommendation on an alternative due to the cost? It seems perhaps a 15hp outbard with a long shaft may be a nice option and scrap the Yanmar all together. Please advise..

Why not rebuild...

Smokey, The Yanmar transmission is a very simple machine. You should be able to have it rebuilt inexpensively. If you need to buy a new one they can be had for less than a new outboard. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, GA imd_ga@hotmail.com

Send it to Mack Boring...

easy to ship, they do a good job, and best cost around, IMHO. Don't get a local to do it, because you're at their mercy for when you get it back. Mack seems to do a quick turnaround and they already have the parts in their inventory.

Dirsributers to work thru

Don, Mack Boring does great work. I think there might be a teritory issue. I believe Whinthrop Harbour is in Chicago, if this is correct then Torrenson would be the distributer to go thru. Pat

My error...

Mack Boring is the correct distributer. They have an office in Buffalo Grove according to the Yanmar website. Pat

I have an idea

I have a Hunter 30 1978. It is powered with a recently rebuilt yanmar 12 h.p. I think it is the engine you are talking about. I am thinking about upgrading to a larger engine. Maybe we can work out a deal. my email is richard4457@yahoo.com. look forward to hearing from you.
