another question about a motor on a 22' oday- I just got an 8hp four stroke(at 87 lbs).I am wondering if a Fulton mount that is rated for a 20hp is heavy enough. It's just weird to be hanging anything off the back of the boat and well - wondering about what others are using for mounting systems. I have backed the mount up with a ss plate but still - just wondering. thank you for any input

spread the forces

The original pipe mount bore straight down on the hole it went through... but your new motor mount will not do this... it works differently, and it will tend to "twist" the transom. So backing up the mount with a larger reinforcement, to spread the force over a larger area of the transom, is in order.

check with the manufacturer

Most motor mount brackets are not rated to carry four stroke engines. Four strokes generate more torque than two strokes, so you need to be careful here. Call the manufacturer with your model number and ask. Either way, spread the load as much as possible by using big backing plates and washers.
