Are you saying the motor mount didn't come with installation instructions? You will need measurements particular to your motor and the transom of your vessel to determine optimal location. What brand motor mount did you purchase. How much vertical travel?
If you know the brand of mount you can simply google it for instructions. Here's an example from Garelick Heavy duty aluminum mount for 4 strokes... but they should all be similar. Note that they use a stick, rather than the motor itself, taped to the mount in order to get the positioning correct. They also recommend 5/16 ss bolts for attachment.
