Motor mount

The wooden motor mount on my 22' Macgregor snapped in two this weekend, (Motor running at full throttle). The safety line attached held fast. The motor stalled when water got into the carb, good thing the Guy that sold me the motor didn't put the air filter on the breather box. Got the motor on the boat and got back to my slip.
I need to replace the motor mount, but I'll be dammed if I can't find a replacement online. Looks like I have to fabricate one. Can anyone tell me the correct way to make an outboard motor mount?

Ron, This reminds me of when someone asked me

how I made some small wooden piece and as I detailed it I realized that I had used 1800 dollars worth of wood working tools..

You will need to get some marine grade plywood or a nice piece of white oak and glue up the thickness you need with urethane adhesive and lots of clamps. Then using the old piece as a pattern cut out the new one and drill the holes to match. Do not try to use epoxy on white oak , they don't get along together.

I laminated 2 pieces of 1x8 oak.

Varnished. Looks great and very inexpensive.

for reminding me to do something I had been putting off.

I got a new 4 stroke motor last month and I had been meaning to get a
safety lynard for it to keep it from getting stolen or as in your case
in the event that the wood bracket mount failed as your did. After reading
the above post, I went right out and got one for piece of mind.

As to finding a replacement block, I know that I have seen them at my West
Marine store in the Poly (Black) style and in previous catalogs. I would
suggest you ask the folks at your local WM to look them up in their computer.
I am sure they can be obtained.

Once I read an article about a guy that made his motor mount out of a couple layers of starboard epoxied and screwed together.

Thanks for the, "Free Advice". I think the best advice is free advice.
I am going to go with the plywood for now, since I only have a few more weeks left in this season. This winter I'm going to decide if I want to replace the whole motor lift/bracket or not. I don’t like the motor lift/bracket I have at all! It is very hard to lift up. If I decide not to replace, I will replace the plywood mount with the white oak. Thanks again, Ron

Nik, Size is; 2" X 9" X 12". The original motor mount was made of two pieces of 3/4" plywood with a 1/2" piece of plywood sandwiched in the middle. I was considering using a 1/2" sheet of aluminum in the middle, but then I would have to find the aluminum and have someone cut it for me. While we are talking aluminum, I did happen to find a solid aluminum motor mount online today. It was $95.00 and plastic coated, But I don’t know if the bolt holes will line-up with the hole on my bracket. Thanks again, Ron

MacMickey I have seen the black plastic replacement mount at West Marine, but I don't know if the mounting holes will line-up with my bracket. Unfortunately I am no where near a West Marine store. Thanks for your reply, Ron

I don't know how great this is for a motor mount, I just read an article once, and now can't find it anywhere on-line. If this is a bad idea for a motor mount, I suppose someone will chime in:
