Motor mount trick

While working on the motor mounts this spring, trying to get the motor lifted off the mount studs became a problem. I had tried to get bottle jacks and the like to work for this job, but found that the task was much more trouble than I expected. After a half day of flustration I came up with the idea of a deflated basketball set in position under the crankcase. With the use of a 12V emergency air pump and battery power from the boat, I found that I had great control of the lifting of the engine. This really worked great and made the job a breeze to pull the mounts 2 at a time and controled the lowering of the engine back on the mounts by letting the air out of the ball needle with my finger untill I had it set back down on the studs. The cool thing is that the basketball displaced lots of area so I had no problems with needing reinforcment at the hull or the pan. Less than an hour to change the mounts with this system.
