Motor Mount Reinforcement

I am interested in re-inforcing the motor mount area of my Oday 25 transom. I have the standard motor lift for a Johnson 9.9 HP. I would appreciate any suggestions from people who have done it before, particularly if you know of a way that would not show from the outside of the boat.

on my mac, i attached a bracket to the mounting bolts of the motor mount in the inside of the trans and ran it forward to the cockpit, attaching it to the side wall between the seat and floor.

What area?

What area do you want to reinforce? The wedge? The interior of the transom? I'm guessing you want to beef-up the interior. I think the best way to do this is to just increase the size of the backing plates for the hardware. construct a large plywood plate with the holes cut out for the bolts. Coat the holes and edges with epoxy to seal them. Then epoxy the plywood to the inside of the transom. Using some very large fender washers to distribute the load (stack in series if needed), tighen down the mounting bolts so the new plywood conforms to the curvature of the transom. Or you can use some thick aluminum stock to do the same thing. If using aluminum, I would use a couple long strips instead of a single piece. Easier to work with. Brad

Thanks, this kinda sounds like what I had in mind, but your suggestion about using the epoxy is excellent, sounds like a good fix for the problem, and one that won't compromise the appearance of the boat.

Good suggestion, the Mac repair sounds adaptable to the O'Day. Sounds like a very solid fix, without compromising the look of the boat.
