Motor mount isolation

I have my motor mount off for varnishing and before I put it back on I was wondering if I should install a piece of rubber between the block and the standoff blocks. I was wondering if it would dampen the vibration noise transmitted to the transome. I have replaced all the vibration dampeners on the motor it is from 1989 so they were a little hard. I was thinking of using a half inch thick piece of rubber and sandwiching it between the block and standoff blocks that would compress it and maybe give the motor somemore isolation. Would that put more stress on the tramsome or backing plates? I have been thinking about this for the last year. I have a honda 8 four stroke. It is not too heavy. What is everyone oppinion on this one? Carl

..on the motor mount, about 3/16 thick. Since I've never used it without, I can't comment on the vibration/noise reduction. Rick D.

This came up before

Someone on the board recommeded this a while back. My motor is off and I was thinking of doing the same. My 5 horse Tohatsu runs good but has a lot of vibration. One thing I noticed was that the prop was a little loose on the shaft. I bought a lower pitch prop and made sure it was snug. Haven't launch it again so can't say as to whether vibration is better.
