way too big
That'll be way too big. I have a Freedom 25 with a 2stroke 8hp motor. That's plenty. Anything bigger would be 1) a waste of power 2) too heavy to hang off the stern of a small boat 3) too heavy to lift off for servicing. One of the joys of a small outboard is being able to lift it off, chuck it in the back of the car, and take it to a shop if it needs more servicing than I can do myself. Make sure you get a motor with a long shaft. A short shaft's prop will lift out of the water if it's choppy. Good luck with your project! Tricia
