Recently I bought a Columbia 22, model year 1969, in great shape. I need to replace the curent outboard motor, a 1989 Yamaha 9.9 26 inch shaft. As you likely know, the motor mounts through a well in the cockpit, which measures 16x9 at the top and 14x71/2 at the bottom.I also recently bought via internet and sight unseen (Yes, I know, I know)a Mercury 9.9 Sailpower 26 inch shaft 4 stroke electric start (same as the Yamaha, except the Mercury is the Bigfoot model). The Mercury is far too large to fit into the well.I have called several dealers of various brand motors, who do not know the dimensions of their brand of this hp motor, or a somewhat smaller hp, nor do they keep in stock 26 inch shaft motors. They tell me if I special order one and it doesn't fit, I have still bought it (sounds unbelievable, doesn't it, but most are apparently focused on selling 200 hp monsters and take little interest in selling such a low profit motor)I need advice regarding what new or recent year model of a 9.9 26 inch shaft, preferably electric start, 4 stroke motor will fit my Columbia 22. I would appreciat any help someone might have. Thanks for anything you can do.
