look on the bracket see what make and model it is. You can than call the mfr
and get the weight max for the bracket. An 8 to 9.9 new 4 cycle motor is going to weigh between 80 and 110 lbs depending on the motor . There are other concerns here. 18' sailboats transoms are not usually built to take a motor that heavy. Your probably going to have to beef up the transom with 3/4 " marine plywood.
