I'm considering buying a boat to serve as weekend quarters for one - two people on the Gulf coast. I have owned a Hunter 25.5 but I am thinking something larger would be needed for regular usage. Would sail primarily in local bays rather than the Gulf. I am hoping to find something around $10,000 or less.

Suggestions?

There are a lot of good contenders. One of them (a series, really) is the Mac 26D or 26S or, should you wish a hybrid, the Mac 26X or Mac26M (probably not for $10,000 tho). ;)

If you liked your Hunter 25.5, consider a Hunter 30. I'm sure you could pick one up for under $10K. You probably wouldn't want to sail it to Mexico, but I think it would be fine for what you're talking about. You may also be able to find a Catalina 30 within your budget. Both are decent, roomy, inexpensive coastal cruisers, and there are plenty of them around.
