The best addition has been a fireplace that we burn turf in and drink Irish coffees next to.

Bracket removal / outboard gin pole

Bill: I am in the process of replacing the factory bracket with a Garick Offshore Bracket. I have just purchased a Yamaha four stroke 8hp. Any advice on removal of the existing bracket? I have been struggling with piano wire, island girl solvent and hammering a painters spatula and have only gotten 1/4 through the glue holding the bracket to the transom. Have spent two 4 hour afternoons with very slow progress. Any suggestions in its removal. Also would appreciate any pics or detail of your gin pole system for raising the motor. My Yamaha weighs 109lbs. Thanks Alex

PVC PIPE ON THE LIFELINES

This, probably, is nothing new, but I found that the plastic covering on my lifeline cables was beginning to wear a bit thin, and I was afraid that if somebody grabbed it to keep himself from going overboard, he might get steel splinters in his hand, so I bought some half-inch pvc piping and ran the cables through them. This seems to be successful and makes me feel more confident when I have to work forward to handle a headsail. I am now considering using some even narrower piping on the forward shrouds where my genoa frequently gets hung up when I come about. I am hoping that will help.

LPG Stove

I replaced my old alcohol stove with a Force 10 propane stove. I lucked out and bought a used, but essentially new stove for $500 (instead of about $1,000)from a dock neighbor who found it too big for his boat. My wife was afraid of the old alcohol stove since it was prone to flare-ups. Cooking is now quick and easy. I went to the additional expense of installing two sensors for the alarm system, one right behind and beneath the stove and another in the bilge.

New Steering

I have not completed it as yet but I am at the 3/4th mark. I have built a wheele stand and installed a gear box to drive the cables for the stearing. I have had a 28" wheel built with 8 handles out of oak with Brass trim. It is stained dark and is belt drive to the box. I believe it will work well and should add to the boat in many ways.

...for inclement weather. Can be used either underway or moored. Used it in a steady rain while motorsailing this past summer on a 50-mile leg of a long journey.
