Does anyone know of a mosquito net arrangement for pop top sailboats? I was sure I had seen a magazine ad for a net you could simply throw over the pop top when it was up.

Been there

And what's the best source for mosquito netting?

I need to get some, before we come down with malaria, equine encephalitis, or some other horrible disease. At least those would take our minds off those goddamned flying pests!

How about...

an Army/Navy store. Don't know if they still carry things like that; but we used to get 'em there real cheap. Or, possibly, a scouting supply store.

Sports Authority

I bought mine from the Sports Authority. If you don't have a Sports Authoruty in your area, you can puchase on-line. I paid $5.00 for a 48" X 72" sheet. I didn't have a Pop Top for my 240 so the netting didn't work well. This year I purchased a "Bug Buster" Screen for my companion way and it's been terrific. It has a fine mesh so even gnats can't get through. I would definetly recommend it. (I also have a "Bug Buster" screen for my foward hatch.) John

Pop Top Bug Stopper

I added a camper cover with screens to my 23.5 this summer before our big trip around Florida. The real test came when we spent the night in Little Shark River, Florida Everglades. Not a bug in the boat. We spent 25 days and covered 900 miles without any bug problems through some of the most famous buggy places. I would highly recommend the camper cover with screens. Real Screen

I had a trapezoidal aluminum frame screen made to fit the companionway groove. With a strip of velcro to seal the vinyl top to the screen it makes it bug tight. Hardware stores have the aluminum frame parts for the do-it-yourselfer. Ken S/V Wouff Hong

Bug canopy

The previous owner of my H23 left me a very nice gift...a huge bug screen that can be hoisted up the mast with the main halyard and drapes over the gunwales to cover the entire cockpit and companionway like a canopy. It looks like those mosquito nets that we used to hang over the bed from a hook in the ceiling back in the old days (I grew up in Jamaica without any A/C). I like it a lot because I can come up from below deck without having to fight the Velcro. Next time I go aboard, I will try to locate the name of the manufacturer and post it here.
