We Replaced Ours
Hi Bob, You're in a great sailing town. I replaced our throttle and shift cables. While we had the pedistal open, we added a GPS data/power cable and a VHF RAM mic cable as well. Is it possible that your cable is kinked some place? It makes many turns as it snakes between the top of the pedestal and the throttle linkage on the diesel. Just find it's path where you can see it, and look for kinks. The throttle lnkage on the diesel is far easier to deal with than the shift linkage, so you're lucky that it is the throttle that is giving you problems. I would suggest that you nail down the exact model of the pedestal you have and get the parts breakdown drawings and installation guide for it. There may be cable clamps inside the pedestal that you can drop inside the pedestal if you loosen them too much. The drawings and instructions will show you what's inside there. Probably you have an Edson and they may have on-line drawings, or they will send you whatever you need. Let me know if you need help.
