Try Harbor Springs ...

I think that Harbor Springs is the only naturally protected harbor in Little Traverse Bay. When I was there last summer I saw quite a few boats moored there. I would think if you contact the city of Harbor Springs, they could tell you. See the attached photo I took while there. Regards, John Sorry, the photo was too large to send, I will edit it and send later. If you want I will email it to you. John

Little Traverse Bay

Petoskey has a marina (see link), but there's a wait list for all but transient slips.

NW Mich marinas

The area you are looking at is a "premium" area for boating. Waiting lists and hefty fees are the norm. What about the Lake Huron shore--Tawas, Oscoda, Alpena, etc. Less crowded, less $$.

No Harbor Springs

Forget Harbor Springs! It is a beautiful anchorage -though deep - and very picturesque. It is NOT the town for the cost conscious. Very snooty - very unfriendly to commoners. Agree that Arcadia is a good choice, but so are most of the harbors along that side of Michigan. White Lake, Pentwater, Frankfort, and Saugatuck all have moorings and are well protected. Muskegan has moorings, but Muskegan Lake is fairly large and I would suspect that a mooring could get uncomfortable in the correct conditions. I would also look into Manistee - no moorings, but I would expect slips along the river to be found at reasonable prices.
