Morgan 46' Morgan aft cockpit 4 Georgetown, MD
We purchased our Morgan almost 2 years ago and after lots of rebuilding I think we are ready for at least enjoyable sailing. Last weekend we were going out and saw a Morgan similar to ours and had a brief conversation with its owner.....He had asked if we had our bulkheads converted?..I asked what he ment and he said that the earlier Morgans 1970's..(ours is 1985)..had a design flaw in the bulkheads as they were not "bonded" with the deck.....and this at times of heavy seas caused the deck and bulkhead to shift...allowing major structural damage......he thinks the problem was fixed in latter design models possibly mine.....I am looking this weekend. has anyone heard of this problem or any resources I can go to to determine if mine was bonded or not???...the bulkheads are 1" fiberglass with teak veneer and butt directly to the cabin roof...but not sure if they are Bonded to it.....The conversion is fiberglassing the bulkheads to the cabin deck..then covering the new fiberglass with teak and new head liner. Any info appriciated. thanks Rob

Here Is someone who might help you

Some people I met in Saint Pete. this past May own a charter boat company called Dolphin Landings, the owners name is Dan Peretz and his company uses Strictly Morgans in their charter fleet, especially older ones like the one you describe. He may know or could direct you to someone who could answer your question. Please see the attached link for his contact info. And good luck to you, worst thing in the world is not knowing.
