I recently purchased a 1985 Morgan 43CC and have some questions/guidance. First I'm looking for a distributor for Perkins 4-108 parts. I've contacted several who no longer carry them. Specifically I will be replacing all the rubber hoses, belts, and filters as she has been sitting a while. Secondly, I'm looking for all thru-hull fitting locations from inside the boat to determine their condition. Last, The boat has been in fresh water and I'll be moving it to salt water and would like recommendations on the best bottom paint to transition from fresh to salt water use.

Thank You!

Bottom paint effectiveness varies by location. You should talk to the boaters at the marina you are planning to keep your boat.

When you haul the boat for transport and painting, do the thru-hull inspection. Be prepared for a recommendation to replace some. Might wish to get a quote from the yard where the boat will be hauled. They can be in poor condition w/o external symptoms. Namely, they might have internal metal "corrosion", and could break if stuck hard by something. That's why you must carry those tapered wooden plugs.

I've replaced seven of mine.

A lot of the parts for your engine will be generic or third party.

Take the v-belts to a NAPA dealer and they can match them with Gates belts.

Wix makes some of the best oil filters and they have a good cross reference list. Fuel filters are usually third party Racor filters and can be found online at any of the major chandleries.

Except for any molded hoses, these too are generic, you'll just need the diameter and length.

Through hull locations will generally be near where they are used. Look under sinks and in cabinets and in the engine room. You will probably have one for each sink drain, one for the engine intake. One for the head intake and one for overboard discharge. There may be additional seacocks for cockpit and deck drains and for a wash down pump if you have one. Once you have the boat hauled for bottom painting, you'll be able to see all of them.

@Morgan43 welcome to the forum. Where sailors help each other throw money at holes in the water. With a smile.

Congrats on getting a Perkins on the boat. They are a solid run longtime engine. I have a 4.107 Perkins powering my boat.

Many of the refrigerated big trucks you see running down the highway have a Perkins running night and day keeping the trunk refrigeration cold.

I am told Pacific Power in Richmond Washington is the US Perkins distribution center. There parts center will send you the parts you need. (i.e.the preformed hoses). The straight hoses can be purchased from a good hose source like NAPA. You may find a local truck parts center has Perkins 4.108 or 4.107 parts available at a better price than the Perkins part store. I needed fuel line copper fittings. Found them cheap at a truck focused fluid hydraulic hose shop. Took the part in for show and tell, they knew just what I needed. Fuel line fittings, raw water pump, fuel filter housing, hoses, atomizer, etc all priced better than seeking a part from marina boat part house.

Good luck. And post a picture of your Morgan.

Even if I look for thru hills from inside a boat, I always check when the boat is out of the water as I've found occasions when some easily identified from outside thru-hull was not found when looking from the inside.

There is no better, efficiency and reliability wise, Perkins dealer in the USA than TAD; Trans Atlantic Diesel in VA. Get a parts book and a shop manual and they'll be able to help you out. Don't ask them for parts numbers so you can shop for the parts online; they don't like that, obviously.
