More trailer questions

I am sure people are starting to get annoyed at me :)
Since I have not been able to locate a suitable trailer to bring down
Lyra down to the Southeast, I was planning on building a cradle and
putting it on a flatbed trailer (car hauler type). I am not so keen on
having the boat so high off the ground, but with good straps and
careful driving, it will do.
My question was: Should the cradle be built of metal or can I get by
with a wood cradle? The wood cradle would be a lot easier since I can
build it myself (all with oversized wood beams and strong through
bolting).
Thanks again to all who tolerate my pesky questions,

Cedric
"Lyra" Series II Vega on the way home very soon.
