...for those that didn'r see the ad in Sailing: www.reliefband.com I'm gonna beta one on my wife. She's a good test. FYI, I purchased an herbal mouth spray at one of the boat shows, and I'll be darned if it hasn't worked on everyone who has tried it. Our YC even has taken to stocking it. Still, can't have enough. Emporium items?

Bly: Maybe these items would be good items for the emporium? How are we going to find them anywhere else?

Herbal Seasickness Spray

I have the name and ordering info at the boat which is 150 miles away, but I'll get the information and post it when I get down. FYI, I ordered the disposable 48 hour version of this other devise for $50. We'll see how it works. (Make that 'she'll see how it works') RD

Seasick Oral Spray Follow - up

www.worlddirect.net/v-motion.htm I'm pretty sure this is the stuff I have on the boat which is a Banaca-type spray containing B6, ginger and other items that does a remarkable job calming the already queasy stomachs of guests and my very sensitive wife. There is no way I would advocate for any herbal - type product, but credit due: this one seems to work. I only suggest this for other souls who suffer as she has. I know any remedy is worth considering. The very best to all of you this Christmas and the best in 2000. RD

Patches

I think the scopolamine patches that go behind the ear are available again by prescription. Whatever you do, do NOT cut one of these things as that can easily result in an overdose. Dry mouth and problems with close vision are infrequent minor side effects. I personally have never been seasick (thank god), but the patches worked pretty well for several guests. MC

Don't Eat The Patches

Michael, your post made me remember a time ten years ago when I had to fly to Catalina the day after sinus surgery and help bring my dad's boat back. Certainly against Doc's orders. Anyway, pumped up with medication, as we neared the marina, I took a final swig of coke and ate what I thought was a fly. It was my wife's half patch which she had deposited in what she thought was an empty can. Anyway, she ran up the ramp and called the Doc who was very concerned about oral ingestion in view of the other medication. That is, after he chewed her out for cutting the patch in half in the first place. However, he did advise her that she might want to consider some questions she might ask me since taken orally, it would act as a truth serum! (Big laugh, huh?) Anyhow, if it were not for 'the patch', we wouldn't be sailing today. Have a good 2000. RD

Any comparison info?

Has anyone been able to compare the various alternatives? Some had success with the wrist band last season on our boat. This has the simple bead putting pressure on the median nerve. The "ReliefBand" does the same thing but with a battery providing a stimuli. Are the results better than bands with the patch or herbal sprays?

Rest and good food.

As long as I am well rested and have eaten a good meal I don't get motion sickness. If I'm tired or have skipped a meal I start to feel discomfort. I try to eat stuff low in fat, no grease etc. A (not several) beer also seems to help me for some reason although everyone will tell you to stay away from the booze. Hey if nothing else it's a great reason to have a beer at 10:30 in the morning. As for the herbal sprays... I already got suckered in once for a spray that was suppose to illiminate snoring.... But who knows. I think the best thing is a positive attitude. If you think you will get sick it seems like you will.
