I sort of thought this might help someone else. I finally took the time to test the temperature of my fridge freezer. I ordered an analog refrigerator thermometer from Radio Shack for $7 and hung it in the empty freezer. Son of a gun it was 20 degrees, way too cold. I ended up dialing it back 3 settings and now it is at 29 degrees. I had previously insulated the inside of the box last summer but it was still running too much. Hopefully this adjustment will cut back on battery usage. A simple thing but worth the time.

It is currently a frozen 60 degrees here in Southwest Florida. Will retest when its 80+ in a week or so.

Refer madness ... hehehe, I get it! Our "refer" runs on dry ice though. :)

BTW ... Fingers crossed for good weather in your area between Christmas and New Years, Sailm8! We had such a fun Cayo Costa cruise at Thanksgiving, we're hoping to come back and see Sanibel/Captiva this time!

Hi Sailm8,

I may want to try and pick your brains about your area if ya have the time. We are thinking about heading to your area late next Feb or March.

We had a similar problem with a new system running too much. I finally had it checked and the tech added several more ounces of refrigerant. We now have to wait for 80 degrees in Maine, should be mid-July. An easy check was the frost on the evaporator plate covering the whole surface. Previously it was less than half causing it to run longer. BTW at 10 degrees ice cream is still soft.
