I have questions about the Miami boat show (some which have now been answered thanks to this site), and more about MIAMI the city. I think I can work in a boat show if I take the admiral and her #1 maiden to a Broadway type show while in Miami. The show is Feb 16 - 20th. Any cultured natives have recommendations for something like this? I would much rather do Miami in February than New York (no offense Yankee/Giants/Jets fans, I just would rather go where the "weather suits my clothes".

Isn't Miami Unfriendly to boaters???
I was reading that they now forbid anchoring within the city limits!!!! We are planning a trip up the east coast and are afraid to visit this city as I can think of few things worse than sailing all night putting down an anchor and then being harassed by the local police before we get any sleep. Right now we are planning to go out to sea and stay there until Georgia!!! I'd love some comments from someone recently there in a boat. Tom

Thanks for the info. I did find that "Wicked" was playing at the Broward Center but thanks to *^%$ Ticketmaster it seems to be sold out. Any of you SFS (South Florida Sailors) know how to score some tickets for the weekend of the boat show?

Citizens in Miami Beach do not care about sailboat visitors. The rule originally was 72 hours but I think they have extended it to 7 days with exeptions for stormy conditions. That is Miami, but within close reach you have Biscayne Bay with excellent anchorages. I don't know how big is your boat but if you are trying to by-pass the east cost of Florida be sure you have good weather window as the passes to the intra-coastal are few and far in between and the Atlantic can be unforgiving. The great majority of cruisers go up the "Ditch".

I am a native of Florida and who knows I just might go back for mare than a vist next year. Miami is avoided by the true natives. For us it is the keys or bust. Stick to Miami beach if you can for the show then sail to the Dry Tortugas.
