Is there such a thing as a 12V dimmer switch? If so where can I get one and will they work with halogen lights? I have been looking around for nice "nautical looking" light switches. All I have been able to locate are either plastic ones or standard toggle switches. Do the nice ones exist?

Haven't see one but........

they probably exist. Many of the lights have a dual switch settings (high/low). Even the cheap ones from West Marine have this feature.

Light your life up

I have replaced all the original lights on my 430 with halogen lights from Home Depot. You just throw away the transformer and mount the new halogen light where the others were at. I eliminated the twist connector that mounts in the track and used SS screws (2) to mount the light. I used a Radio Shack switch that I mounted inside the light itself. In fact I even added another red low amp draw LED light with a resistor with it's own switch in the mount too. I also used some of the thin cabinet halogens from CostCo tied in with an existing light fixture and added a switch to it as well. I have used these in the engine compartment as well as over our refer for quick bright lighting. I used to have a section on my home page but for some reason I don't see it, so will try to post it. www.photorunplus.com/thefix I will be replacing some of the ceiling round thin white halogens with some of the WM red LED's that were commercially built in our new 460. They are easily substituted. Buying the LED's individually and wiring them with the appropriate resistor is pretty straight forward and a lot cheaper than buying the production lights. If you want more info let me know. Dennis ps I uploaded a picture of what they look like but it didn't post. If you want , email me and I'll send a couple pictures that my web site for the sale of my 430 has on it that better shows the lights.

Thanks Dennis

Dennis - thanks for the input. I went to Home Depot Expo and ordered out of their catalog. They have some very cool light fixtures. I opted for a couple of frosted dome lights and a few bunk lights on a long flex cable. All of the lights cost me less than $100. What a deal. I would love to see some pictures. You can e-mail them to me at peter@selexcommunications.com Thanks
