More idiots on boats

Fine, get her off the boat and single hand back to shore.Maybe the woman threaten to leave her man if he didn't call for an evacWhat would you do if your wife threaten to leave you if you didn't get her off that boat now?
I read somewhere that over 90% of abandoned boats survive. One should sail in conditions and areas they are comfortable with. that's no to say we all don't get caught in a blow now and then, I'm saying for instance: don't go blue water sailing if aren't comfortable with the possible weather and you have only sailed on a 100 acre lake. I have had nervous passengers in a dense fog but by pilot buddies thinks only a lark since we fly 0/0 in 3 dimensions.
What ever happened to common sense. I know most of us have it but, I can't count the number of times I have assisted the wayward.

I'd disagree..there are far too many that don't have the common sense God gave ants...
I saw something about this and the piece of info missing is that a Gale was due to come up in the next 12 hrs.. I don't understand their refusal of fuel nor why they didn't continue with the sails they still had either. I suppose the wife panicked and the husband caved... She wouldn't have liked sailing with me in that situation...
Bad captining
don't know who was wearing the captains hat but they clearly either could not come up with a plan that was acceptable to the crew or briefed the situation so badly that the crew panicked.
I'd be interested in learning how the other captains out there handle the "we are going to be OK" brief to the crew once something goes wrong/breaks.
I've never had to do it for real, but have had to calm the ex-wife after the first grounding and once in a while when we get caught out in thunderstorms and higher winds.

2. If someone else did, and we were 200 miles offshore, and they wanted off, I'd simply ask them to walk.
i sail in 50mph on the pond regularly for the thrill with full sail
if i we're that far out i think i'd do it with more reservation and would definitely have a back up set of everything. but fuel is a lame excuse on a sail boat
