SORRY...IN MY LAST MESSAGE I NEGLECTED TO MENTION THAT I AM 6'4" SO I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS REALLY 6'5" OR GREATER HEADROOM IN THE 340...ANYTHING LESS AND I WOULD STILL BE WALKING AROUND IN A STOOPED POSITION...I KNOW THAT THE BROCHURE LISTS 6'4" BUT I ALSO KNOW THAT THE BROCHURES ARE NOT ALWAYS EXACT... THANKS FOR YOUR PREVIOUS REPLIES...JOHN

I have never been on a H34, but I am 6'6" tall and have a 6'4" overhead on my L37. The only boat that hasn't been a problem for me is a semi-custom/Custom boat like a Hinckley or Alden. Although I have chartered a 51' Beneteau that was a doable height of 6'5"

I am also 6'-4" and headroom had been one of my primary screening criteria for purchasing a sailboat. Hunter's have consistenly more headroom for comparable size boats than any other production boat. I was looking for a 30-33 ft late model cruiser and soon realized that I was going to have to either compromise my headroom screening criteria and buy a helmet, or buy a bigger boat. I bought a 2002 Hunter 356 last spring. It has at least 6'- 4-1/2" headroom from the V-berth, cabin and aft birth...and has a soft head liner! I looked at and sailed the Hunter 340 and found the H-356 to be a much better boat...headroom, layout and sailing performance. I would highly recommend spending a few more boat dollars and move up to a Hunter 356 or Hunter 36 (same boat, new model number). Just watch out for the bulkheads above the passage doors! now THAT would be an interesting survey

I'll bet Hunter gets the lion's share of taller sailors. Perhaps the ridiculous "capsize ratio" should be replaced with a "head-knocker ratio." (6'3" myself, so I understand purchasing a boat according to what makes you stoop the least.)
