Not a bad idea provided there is an economical alternative which actually performs as well or better than copper.. There is no such thing right now, according to reports I am seeing.. We who leave our boats in the water and use them year round typically go 2-4 years between bottom jobs and none of the no-copper (or zinc) coatings will keep the boat bottom tolerably clean that long..
In those harbors in California, if the copper was a real problem (at those extremely small concentrations), there would be no barnacles on any of the boat bottoms and the seals and fish would not be in the harbor .. I have witnessed that to not be the case.. (also see article in Rick's link.. concerning toxicity). I am not condoning environmental pollution.. I am condoning concentrating our limited resources on control of things that are (or cause) a real problem.
