On July 1st, hubby and I are setting out on our first extended Chesapeake Bay cruise. We're will be departing Hances Point around 1:00 PM, and our first destination will be somewhere around Worton Creek. After that we're planning a overnight stopover at Kent Island, then 2 days in Annapolis (in a hotel - yeh !!). The return trip will be the same way we came. I've been planning this trip for nearly 2 weeks and would appreciate pointers or words of encouragement from my sailing comrads. Wish me luck. Darline Spring "Exquisite Delight" Balboa 22' p.s. I'm trying to get my husband to sign a contract stating that "I reserve the right to abandon this little adventure at any time" -haha

Go to St. Michaels

You say you'll stop at Kent Island. Why not make the next stop St. Michaels? It's a great place. From there you can then go to Annapolis. RP.

consider Rock Hall

Rock Hall is a beautifull town with a great crab house with space to tie up while dining. I don't think there's much in the narrows except bars with wet "T" shirt contests and lots of power boat noise. St Michaels is a great destination and for the trip to Annapolis by way of Eastern Bay is about 20nm. However be aware of tides, You can have your progress greatly reduced if you buck a strong foul tide. Capn Jim of Que Pasa?

Fairlee creek...

is a well protected lagoon were you can anchor. There is a marina, hotel, golf course, tiki bar and restaurant. Beware of the entrance, it is a very narrow and tight turn specially when there is a lot of current. A more quiet place is Swan creek, just north of Rockhall. Good luck OH

Chesapeake Bay Cruising

Worton Creek and Fairlee Creek are both nice. For peace and quiet go to Worton, for more of a party atmosphere go to Fairlee. For a combination you can spend the day at Fairlee and the night at Worton. We have found that approach suits our tastes well. Swan Creek (Rock Hall) is nice too. Kent Narrows didn't show me too much, but your tastes may be different. It is well situated for an overnight stopover on a lot of trips. There is a nice quiet spot (at least it was quiet when I was there, but it was a weekday) to anchor on Marsh Creek and a number of places to eat. The anchorage is a little far from everything in town though (it was farther than I felt like rowing the dinghy). I guess you can just tie up at most of the restaurants if you want to eat ashore. I am pretty sure I wouldn't want to be a Kent Narrows on the weekend. I bet the powerboat traffic is pretty heavy then. St Michaels is a real nice destination, definately one of my favorites so far. If you can fit it into your schedule, it is a much nicer stop than Kent Narrows. Plan to spend at least a few hours at the maritime museum if you go there. Lots to see and do in Annapolis. You will like it. Enjoy your cruise. Pete
