In search of my next boat Palm Harbor, FL
My wife and I are looking to upgrade to 30'ish boat. We really like the Moorning/Sunsail 323 boat listed through the Moorings site. It seems that for the price (listed @ $54K) we can get a newer boat (2004-2006) than other brands or models, than anything locally.

She has some trepidation on the boat having been in the charter service, and it being kind of beat up. I would think that they should have been kept up well, since it would be a reflection on the charter company.

Has anyone bought one of these directly from Moorings/Sunsail? What was your experience dealing with them? How much were you able to deal on the price?

Any information would be helpful.

BTW - there are a couple in the local charter service that we plan on taking out to "test sail" and see if we really like them.

No idea about buying a charter boat, but they get a lot of hard usage by non owners. Probably a lot more usage than a "private" boat of a comparable age. Think rental car, it is amazing what a rental car will do that your own car won't.

Of course lots of private boats get less use (sitting at a dock for months at a time is not good either) but their owners fail to do any maintenance or make very foolish modifications.

That said you may also want to look at a Beneteau 311 it's almost the same size boat and they sell for less money.

I have heard rumors that some Beneteau's from the Caribbean fleet may have been manufactured in France. Therefore, there may be some noticeable differences compared to a South Carolina boat.
