Mooring tackle

So I am probably going to have my yet to be purchased boat on a mooring on my little lake. At a minimum I am assuming I am going to have to buy at least two pendants. I am not going to have to deal with tides or currents obviously and I will be in a pretty protected area but, the wind can get up there none the less, no hurricanes or anything. So what can you experienced folks recommend for mooring tackle? I am at the most, going to have a 25 foot boat around 4500# displacement.

Without knowing the regulations for your lake, I have no recommendations.

Ditto- if you're at a marina, they may have requirements. Mine requires two pendents of at least 1/2 inch, thimbled eye splices, seized, galvanized screw shackles (I forget the size, but mine are hefty). My pendents are either 9/16 or 5/8 NER three strand nylon. The tug on a mooring line is not abrupt like in a slip, so it may be worth the peace of mind to go a little larger than you would for docking lines. Whatever will fit in the cleats. Pendent length is restricted where I am- none are allowed over 8ft. I would rather have a couple more feet.

Pendents should be tied at unequal lengths, so leave the bitter end unspliced and use standard cleat hitches to secure them to the boat. Were you looking at an Oday 25? I think your bow cleats would be right at the gunwale. If so, no need to worry about chafe.
