1) I have a soft ball as well, with swivel.
2) The pendant with chafe cover was purchased from West Marine. It may be a composite with nylon, definitely synthetic and floats.
3) I recognize the PVC is rather fragile, and I am concerned about this, that is why there is an inner 1 1/4" pipe bridging the center joint. The unit will pivot up and down freely. It is any side to side that will be of concern. Maybe not connecting it directly to the mooring ball, have a small length of light chain to allow for some lateral slop.
