I recently purchased an 1989 Catalina 30 tall rig with a bow sprit and was wondering if anyone could suggest the ideal way to install an eye hook on the bow for easy mooring. Should I go through the hull or through the bow sprit? Or do you suggest other alternatives? Thanks for any advise.

Mooring attachment

I'd suggest two 3/4 inch nylon lines with eyesplices in them to your bow cleats. They should be 15-20 feet long and spliced to the mooring tackle UNDER the ball using galvanized thimbles. I would not attach to the bow sprit under any circumstances. Thru hull doesn't appeal to me either as that is typically a chain attachment. Nylon lines have some stretch to them and this eases the stress on your mooring setup.

Have to Agree...

I have to agree with John, I have attached to a moorings using the same techinque, and not had any problems. Tim
