Mooring Depth

Any recommendations on the minimum water depth to moor a C22 with the keel up or the keel down? I have read differing opinions on whether to moor keel up or down and in my situation the depth of water is an issue. I am in a protected harbour on Lake Michigan and rarely get large waves.

hi Steve. From everything i have ever heard you want to moor with the keel up it keeps as much of the hardware outof the water and away from wear. Now as far as min depth . Well the Cat 22 draws about 2 feet of water with the keel up so i would think that 3 feet would be moor than enough providing the rudder is out as well.

Last year we bought a C22 that had been moored in 3' of water. That was pretty convenient when it sank! Don't worry, it got knocked down in a major coastal windstorm (they don't call 'em hurricanes here even though we get 75 knots!).LaDonna
