WE RECENTLY BOUGHT A LAKEHOME, AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP OUR CATALINA 22 MOORED ON THE LAKE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS FAIRLY SHALLOW, SO IN ORDER TO KEEP IT CLOSE ENOUGH TO SHORE TO GET A MOORING PERMIT, IT WILL HAVE TO BE MOORED WITH THE KEEL RETRACTED. HOW TOUGH IS THAT ON THE BOAT AND ARE THERE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH KEEL-UP MOORING?

Mooring

Well, our boat is moored about 20 feet off the beach here where we live. We crank up the keel while she's moored because, the less keel and cable you have exposed to the water, the less corrosion you will have have. With the boat in the water for several months at a time we have had no problems. I would'nt worry about it too much. Sure the cable and winch will have some strain on them but they are built to take it.

tough to moor with keel up??

answer- not at all heck that's one of the advantages of the swing keel. our club moors all boats, and all of us with swing keels, always have it up. The only downside is when, in the excitement of the moment, you forget to lower it when your sailing!! been there done it.. also, although the arguement continues, remember to lock the keel down with the keelbolt (under the rear "dinette" seat) the best arguement I've heard for it is the fact that the manufacturer put it there> best of luck
