Have kept DS II on mooring for 8 seasons
I have kept my Day Sailer II on a mooring in saltwater for every season that I've owned her. I can't think of any specific problems due to this, but I can offer a few tips. I have a bridle on my mooring line, this allows 2 eye-splices, one on each of the 2 bow cleats. The 2 cleats on the DS II are not that far off-center, but I still feel better splitting the load to both cleats. The boat also seems to sail around on the mooring less. Leave the centerboard down a few inches while moored, this also reduces the swinging back and forth in the wind. I leave the plug out of the self-bailer, this allows any rain during the week to drain. This is not totally effective, but enough to usually prevent coming out to find a cockpit full of water. A DS I will need a cockpit cover (boom-tent) or a reliable automatic bilge pump. I remove the rudder and stow it in the cuddy, or in the cockpit overnight. You will need to apply bottom paint if leaving the boat in all season, even in freshwater. Also, you need to paint the inside of the CB trunk and as much of the centerboard as possible.
