How do you moor your boat and what do you pay? Does it sit in your already-paid driveway, rock at a float, rest on a dock, or reside tied to a traditional slip in a marina? What do you pay for your moorage? Have your moorage costs gone up? Is there a shortage of slips in your area? Moor your thoughts here, then vote in the week's Quick Quiz at the bottom of the home page.

Dockside Mooring

We are fortunate to have a place at a lake only 30 miles away. She stays at the dock unless I have a long list of to-do items, in which I will trailer her home and do the work in the driveway. Here in Alabama we have the ability to sail 12 months out of the year, with the only drawback is that it has been 100+ degrees here lately. Ben Allen Montgomery, AL O'Day 26

Expensive

I had previously moored my boat in Westchester County, NY on the Hudson (O'day 23) and it cost me $275 a month for a slip with electric and water hookups. Since then, I bought a 275 pound mushroom anchor for $400 and moored it myself (with the help of a diver) at my private residence, which is also on the Hudson. Winter storage will run me $25 per foot ($575) for taking it out, powerwashing, putting it on stands, and putting it back in in the Spring.
