Month Manufactured

So here's a quick question that has been bugging me for a decade. I have been wondering what month my boat was manufactured which, as I understand it, should be encoded into the hull number as the 9th digit. My hull number is CTYN2925M83B. "M" is the 13th character in the alphabet. What am I missing here?

B indicates September. M indicates the format of the hull number. So September of 1983.
It was a very good year.
