Cap'n Ron

George C. Scott chartered this 125 ft Stephens, and captain to head up to the golf tournament in Pebble Beach. A breaking wave caught them on the bar in Morrow Bay as they were underway heading for the Alpha bouy.

Great Photo....

....in the back of the wheelhouse, there is a large painting of that scene. I chartered her in San Diego about twelve years ago for a business thing. She is still one nice yacht. Rick D.

Avast Mateys!

Larry, that is "Mr Mojo to you sir...;-) Beatles wasn't it? Ain't no news to me Mr Liam, I was there in 1978. I am recovering from a flu, and have it handy, thought some of the mates would like to see it, I am surprised it loaded, tried other photos and did not. Thanks higgs, its for the good folks like you, have you seen a pic of the "Falkirk Wheel" of Scotalnd? Kinda hard to explain, but instead of locks, eliminated five, it is a HUGE water-wheel that takes large ferrys up & down. The greatest engineering feat of the twentieth century, including the Empire State and Chunnel. Anybody got a pic to post of "Falkirk WheeL"? ONe was sent to me and it was lost in the shuffle I'm afraid...

Peterborough Lift Lock

The Falkirk Wheel appears to be similar to the lift lock in Canada on the Trent Severn, though it is cooler looking. http://www.galenfrysinger.com/peterborough_liftlock_ontario.htm

The Peterborough lift lock is hydraulic.

The Falkirk Wheel is driven by electricity. Both achieve the same results. "The Peterborough Hydraulic Lift Lock, a Canadian National Historic Site, officially opened in 1904 and will soon be celebrating it's Centennial. This engineering wonder, recognized by several engineering organizations both in Canada and the United States, continues to impress thousands of tourists and boaters each year with visitor number one million passing through the doors of the Visitor Centre during the celebratory year of 2004. The Peterborough Hydraulic Lift Lock was constructed as a means of overcoming a significant drop in elevation during the building of the Trent-Severn Waterway. After eight years of construction and considerable challenges, hundreds including dignitaries from Ottawa who made the journey by train, attended the Official Opening of the Lift Lock on Saturday, July 9th, 1904. At the time the lock was built, the lock was the first to use concrete technology, deemed the highest lift lock in the world as well as the largest structure in the world to be constructed using unreinforced concrete. The Peterborough Hydraulic Lift Lock remains the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world today."
