I am looking at a Hunter 37.5 1991 the surveyors found moisture in the area around the windless and the wheel pedestal. How can this be dried up? Or what repairs are needed

Prob have to be opened up...

dried, reglassed. Depends on the extent, depth, etc. Get a prof estimate. Not a do-it-yourself job on a pricey boat like this unless you know a lot (which apparently you don't.) Lots of discussion in the arcives on this topic, you can learn from there. Great boat, btw. Have a 1993 and it's the best.

Moisture

Depending how serious the damage is and how much the current owners are willing (or not willing) to come down on their price...you may want to start shopping for a different boat.

I concur.

I removed a non-funtioning "Jesus" pump, that the previous owner had installed in the seat of my Gramp's cockpit, and found that he hadn't sealed the through bolts holding it in place. The core of the fiberglass was BROWN MUD as far back as I could scoop it out. I'll have to have the seat cut open, and a piece of plywood or something like that glued in place, and then putty the top back on. Ask your surveyor for an estimate of how expensive the repairs might be, and see if the seller will either have the repairs done, or deduct the cost from his asking price. As I understand it, to determine how extensive the damage is, your surveyor will have to drill small holes in ever widening circles around the affected areas, until he finds dry, solid core material.

Effective Core Repair

Try this.... Drill small holes in the area of the solf deck. Inject non-expanding insulation foam. After it sets-up, close the holes with Marine-Tex.

Warren...would you really recommend

your do-it yourself repair on a $75,000 boat? What's a surveyor going to say about that?
