I am not happy with the location of the traveler on my Hunter 28.5 ('88). I would be interested in suggestions regarding modifications to improve ease of operation.

28.5 Traveler

I have a 28.5 too and agree that the present location is not great. Would be nice to have a cabin mount version but I wonder if the structure would be adequate.

I too am concerned about changing the mounting location but am considering restringing the traveler with cleats on the starboard and port sides of the cockpit. Any thoughts???

traveler location

Having owned a h28.5, I know that the traveler can get in the way sometimes. It's actually a good location from a mechanical standpoint--mid-boom sheeting having an advantage over cabin-top sheeting. With the Hunter's large mainsails, it was probably necessary to get more leverag on the boom. It may be possible to relocate the traveler to the cabin top, but I wouldn't do it without consulting an experienced rigger first. There will be increased loads that will need to be compensated for.
