Mobile to N.O.

Dave, I have never made this trip outside but i travel back and forth constantly on a tug boat pushing barges. Really depends on where you want to go in N.O. Most people run inside the barrier islands along the ICW and get in the ditch at the regelies. it is abt a 130 mile trip from Dauphn Island i believe. The bridge at D.I is the 130 mb ICW, Pascagoula is mile 105, biloxi 85 mb, cat island is a good anchorage as well as ship island abt mile 70. It will be a beautifull trip for you and at 7 mph you are looking at 24 hrs non stop. Just hit the icw at Dauphin Island , monitor VHF ch 16 and if you have any troubles just hail a tug boat and they will help you out. I go back to work on the 13th of this month for 20 days, I am a captain on the M/v Cove Point. Green and white 3 deck tug 78 ft length with black stripes on sides. If you email me I,ll send you my cell number.

what chuck says

Everything Chuck says is right on. Also be careful at west end of Cat Island. There are a couple of shallow places if you stray to far from ICW. Hankerchief Shoal is one. It is a great cruise. I love it. In fact I am going to be bringing a boat back from Pensacola to Mandeville 4th of July for a guy. We like to anchor off of the Islands at night. There are plenty of places to run to if weather gets bad. Pascagoula is the only one with depth issues. At low tide 5 1/2 feet is too much draft. Ocean Springs is really cheap. Point Cadet is good but I am not sure if they have their power back yet. Pass Christian is good but no restaurants or stores. I have not been to Gulfport lately but going there next weekend. Will let you know how it is. When are you going?
