Mobile phone navigation

I just bought a new cell phone and unlocked the built in GPS. Can anyone recommend decent navigation software for Windows mobile 6.1?

I plan on trying Google maps for land based navigation. If it is lousy, I will go for Garmin Mobile XT.

This would only be for reference or backup to my Garmin 3206.

It's really help if you said what phone you had, as not all phones support the same software. Also, are you looking at marine or terrestrial (car) navigation for it??

Dog, it is for marine navigation. It is a Blackjack2 running WM6.1.

I bought Garmin's Mobile XT for land based Navigation. I am looking at this for marine as they also have SW for AIS and weather radar.

This was more a question of has anyone done this? What works well? WM is a widely supported OS that many programs are likely to support on many devices.

Have you tried the mobile software available at Activecaptain.com?? Several people I know have used it and says it works fairly well.

They have a free trial of it available here.

Jeff Siegel is the owner/founder and a pretty good egg.

I spoke with Jeff, Dog, but his app only runs on a touch screen device and mine is not.

Thanks. I am going to do some more research on the Memory-map SW. There are some others out there but they require you to download free maps and calibrate them yourself. I am way too lazy(read busy) to do that.

Memory-Map

Tim, from what I see on that website, the Memory-Map software looks similar too if not the same package that MapTech used to sell.

I've had it for a couple of years, and find it to meet my needs. Running it on an iPAQ. While I don't use it at the helm (I'd end up dropping the bloody thing overboard) at the nav desk it's fine.

In my application, with a bluetooth GPS, battery life is a concern.

I didn't look close enough to see if it comes with a desktop module.
With the MapTech Pocket Navigator you can do planning on the PC and export wayponits, marks, and notes to the Pocket PC.

Yup, I am looking at that one. I have also read that Garmin Mobile XT(which I will use for land based nav) will support Bluechart which is what I use for route planning on my laptop. Staying with just the one program on the phone would be ideal.
