Mobile area
Just came through that area (now dock at Houma, LA) and I gotta tell ya, shallows everywhere. I did the Mobile Bay and Mississippi Sound in one day because of time schedule and also hard to find a good anchorage along the way. Just as I was in the middle of shallows on both sides, so called channel markers around along with hazards on the chart at 8 pm (night) the fog rolls in. It was intense getting through there.Dauphin Bay seems way too shallow for any monohulled sailboat but there is an area just above the "U" of Dauphin on the charts (chart 11378) that would provide good protection from the waves and a tad bit of protection from wind (summer homes). That is the best you are going to get in the Sound and it only protects against a southernly wind/wave although a easterly wind wouldn't be too bad depending on the strength. The next few days though it's suppose to be a nothernly wind at 20-30 knots.
