Trailering 90 miles south to Ocean Springs, and sailing 55 miles to Mobile Bay area. Any trailor sailors from this area with advice. Ideally would like to dock at Dauphin Bay. Reluctant about shallow channel?

Mobile area

Just came through that area (now dock at Houma, LA) and I gotta tell ya, shallows everywhere. I did the Mobile Bay and Mississippi Sound in one day because of time schedule and also hard to find a good anchorage along the way. Just as I was in the middle of shallows on both sides, so called channel markers around along with hazards on the chart at 8 pm (night) the fog rolls in. It was intense getting through there. Dauphin Bay seems way too shallow for any monohulled sailboat but there is an area just above the "U" of Dauphin on the charts (chart 11378) that would provide good protection from the waves and a tad bit of protection from wind (summer homes). That is the best you are going to get in the Sound and it only protects against a southernly wind/wave although a easterly wind wouldn't be too bad depending on the strength. The next few days though it's suppose to be a nothernly wind at 20-30 knots.

Dauphin Island docking

There is a channel leading south from icw called " bayou alloe " I have spent the night there on my hunter 30 with 4 ft draft. Favor the reds going in and there are finger piers to tie up . i wasnt able to get all the way into the slips but enough to catch a line. Convenience store is across the stree , walking distance as well as a bar/cafe with some decent food.
