Yeah Ted, me too.

My injected Yamaha had to have double the oil for the first tank. The only way to do that is to add it to the fuel. That was in '89 so I can't recall how much it smoked. But I do remember running out of fuel just before getting back to the fuel dock. Had to paddle in, with the wind. Again, with older engines, just use 100:1 at 100:1. And those jet-skis, we all have to make sacrifices to get rid of them. I would be willing to sacrifice ammunition. My fantasy is a steady sight picture at 300 yards with a 30.06 followed by a fireball. In case Homeland Security is watching, I said fantasy. I don't even shoot. (anymore)

Can barely avoid missing them with the boat

but I bet they are a hard target to hit when you are trying. I have a picture of a friends boat that was beached when a jetski managed to launch himself and his jetski onto the top of my friends boat.

I have the same motor. I started with 50:1 and it ran fine, although a bit smokey, a bit hard to start at first, then I checked this site and add more gas to my gas can to get at the recommended 100:1. It starts fine every time now and dosen't smoke. It take me forever to get through 5 gals of gas though so I am switching to a smaller tank and using a fuel stabalizer this year.

Fred, i don't want to get into a big thing

over this but if you mix a 50:1 fuel mix for an engine that calls for a 32:1 mix you have just blown your warranty. It's the mix, NOT the brand of oil. Granted there are a better quality of oils out now but it's the mix. Tom s/v GAIA

What manufactors said

After reading all the posts I went online and e-mailed some manufactors and asked them about it and they said to go with the 50:1 unless the manual said different. I asked Nissan (thats what we have) and they acted like they had never heard of 100:1. I think I will stick with 50:1 Rob Morton

Fred, I picked the ratios as examples--------

I was not thinking of a specific brand name. however if it will make you feel better, I have 2 lawnboy mowers one 16:1 the other 32:1 2 chain saws one uses 64:1 the other 32:1 and 2 outboards one @ 50:1 the other 100:1 funny thing though, the guy that runs the local boat shop told me that he would never run his outboard at 100:1, or recommend to anyone else to do so. Tom, we are about to re-commission the dingy

I'll keep track of the fuel vs oil used this year. The engine (25hp Yamaha) is injected and uses 100:1 oil so the true ratio should be interesting. But, by nature, injected motors vary the oil delivery so it'll be my average ratio. You know, this thread is called 'bench racing' in automotive circles. It's so much fun. The guy with the biggest BS wins. :)

I have a new Merc 5hp. It calls for a 100:1 for the 1st tank then a 50:1 mix there after. The reason newer larger outboards have oil injection is that 2 strokes requirer different amounts of oil at different speeds. With small engines oil injection isn't reasonable therefore the oil mix is at the engines highest requirments, typically 50:1.

correction

I am correcting myself. The Susuki DT 5 2x2 that I own and refer to earlier with a link does indeed use the 100:1 ration, as I indicated. I ran across an old Suzuki DT 2 2x2 manual at the library and it clearly states that the mix should be 50:1 with a 30:1 during the break in period. That is the motor in question here.
