Please note

You may not be able to dismantle the elbow because of a lack of room (and it's virtually welded by rust). Take it off at the manifold, which has 4 accessible bolts, then take both pieces home to dismantle. Don't forget to order a new gasket for the manifold. One more tip: don't even think about cleaning and restoring the elbow. Buy a new one.

It seems that Yanmar has restrictions on dealers and they are not allowed to sell Yanmar products outside of their franchised area. It keeps prices artificially high and makes it more difficult to get parts but it does help Yanmar keep control of their products and the market. I for one will never intentionally buy a Yanmar product for just this reason.

Torrenson Marine

I've replaced the elbow on my 2QM15 and it was not difficult. I pulled the 4 screws off and put the mounting bracket into a vise. I had to heat the old one and tap it to get it moving. Then I screwed down the new elbow with the help of a big pry bar. The distributor for the east coast is Torrenson Marine in MI--they also run marinedieseldirect.com. They are very helpful and their prices don't seem unreasonable to me and I've done a lot of work on my engine. Their advice is free and has saved me hundrdeds that would have gone to a mechanic and I am an amateur when it comes to engines. Now I really know my engine.

Mixing Elbow YSM12

I have a YSM12 and have replaced the mixing elbow and the exhaust manifold. You will have to do both as they won't come apart without cracking. Order both new and be sure to use lots of anti-sease on the threads. Keep the joint loose, it won't leak and you won't have a problem next time you need to pull the elbow.
