What is the conventional wisdom concerning "miter cut" dacron headsails? In pre-dacron days I know that linen and cotton sails were miter cut to extend their lives. There is at least one sailmaker today who promotes this practice as being worth the extra cost on dacron as well. What say you?

Miter Cut Sails

Bob, We still build Miter-Cut Genoas but only for Classic Yachts who want a classic look. When loaded, the area under bias loading along along the miter will have more stretch than along the leech and foot. This results in increased local curvature and imbalance of shape. Also the luff has two different bias angles, each with a different stretch ratio. Thanks, Bill Colombo Doyle Sailmakers
