mississippi coast marinas

I currently keep my boat at Bonfouca Marina in Slidell. I went to the Long Beach harbor about a month ago and it was looking good. They replaced everything, but I think there might be a waiting list. Call them for more info. Russ

Not Much

Point Cadet is open and there a plenty of slips but still no power. Gulfport is a complete clean out. Plans look beautiful but no construction yet. Long Beach and Pass Christian have some slips but I don't know about a waiting list. Biloxi small craft harbor has not been repaired. May be another year or two before things are "normal".

Local Paper Article

We had a Sunday, July 22 07, article in the local newspaper on the subject. I am not sure how long it will be up, but try the link below. I have it on Word if you need info. Basic status - very bare - I'm at the Air Force base and there are a few private marinas. But Tom is correct, it will be a few years before they are anywhere near pre-storm status. A pull quote: "There are about 600 working boat slips for pleasure boats in the five publicly owned and operated harbors on the Coast, and there are a half-dozen or so more private harbors. That capacity will about double once current and planned renovations across the Coast are completed. Every slip is leased or rented and every public harbor - in Pass Christian, Long Beach, Biloxi, Ocean Springs and Pascagoula - reports at least a long waiting list, if not a very long waiting list." And, I'll bet they won't be cheap. Two private marinas I asked said the apartment or Condo owners had to lease the slip and they started between $200 and $400 just for the slip. Good luck.

Good Info

Some good info given here. There is one more that I know of, which is Oak Harbor on the east end of Lake Ponchatrain in Slidell. But the pickings are kind of slim, and will be for another year or two. One other thing to consider, if you are not going to live aboard. I live in a sub division called Eden Isles, which is built on a series of canals. Many here do not have boats, and some residents would rent you dock space. Well protected area, easy access. Might be worth checking out.

If you don't mind Mobile Bay....

Try Turner Marine at Dog River on Mobile Bay...they have plenty of slips available with water and electricity... Dick

Ocean Springs - 2019

From the mentioned news article: "We've got people on the waiting list since 1996" for certain types of boats, said Ocean Springs harbormaster John Hughes." I asked in Feb 07 and was told it was a 12 year waiting list. Before you do anything you should come drive the coast and visit the marinas, see for yourself. I hope you can find something - this is a great sailing area. BTW - USL Ragin Cajun Class of '73
