Missing tack bracket

Hello sailing folks, I have recently bought an old Idylle 11.5 by Beneteau, and there seems to be something missing. I can't figure out how to secure the mainsail tack. When I took the sea trial, my surveyor (a wise old salt) just tied it to the boom. So far I haven't come up with a better idea. I would really appreciate some help on this.

I have searched and searched and found many interesting ways to do it with pins and brackets. Some go on the boom, some go on the gooseneck, some include one or two reef hooks.

I am convinced my set up was meant to have a goosneck fitted bracket with two reef hooks (one on each side). I just cant figure out how it mounts and where to get the exact one I need.

The gooseneck bolt has a Tee pin at the top. Do I knock that out and set a bracket down on that? Any ideas what properties I would want in this bracket?

Take out that "Tee pin" and replace it with a tack shakle

See the Goosneck brackets and hardware section about halfway down the attachment. Not the same as yours but I think that's what you want to have. Something like the NB1-2 Tack Shackle. You should be able to pick that up at any chandlery

Thanks for the tip! The tack shackle might do the trick. I noticed the gooseneck brackets on that page and that may be the ticket too.

I notice my set up has the boom tie in straight to the bolt. I would think a gooseneck bracket would spread the load much better.

I also figured out that Z-Spar makes Beneteau masts. Although I found my boat in the list, the mast I was referred to didn't quite look the same. Al least the gooseneck looked different. All the Beneteau goosenecks I saw had brackets. I think I may have lost mine to the previous owner.

I've been trying to get US Spar to help. They are the US distributor for Z-Spar, but after 3 phone calls and a web inquiry from their page, I have not gotten a response. Maybe they have gone out of business and haven't shut down the phone and web pages yet?

My sailmaker dissuaded me from using a tack shackle on our main, suggesting instead some small dynema line. It worked so well (my tack fitting is very similar to yours, T shaped), just wrapping it a half dozen times around the T shape, that my jib sheets are now attached to the Yankee with the same stuff.
I have seen quite a few of the mega-sailing yachts down here in the Caribbean, over the last few years, that are now using this line instead of wire for stays and shrouds, I kid you not!

The best option is to tie the tack rope around the mast. Tying it to the boom doesn't make sense since you can achieve the same effect with the cunning ham.
