Missing Mooring

About 18 months ago, something, likely a commercial vessel, cut my winter stick from my chain. Since that time, our diver has not been able to locate either the chain or the helix. It’s likely silted over and visibility is near zero at the bottom of about 12-15 feet of water. Now there is even a question as to whether the helix itself was ripped out.

Any ideas as to how to locate the chain or helix? I’ve been told about dragging a grappling hook, using a powerful magnet, CHIRP Sonar, etc.

If anyone knows, this group would know.

Grappling hook works everytime. My dad used it many years ago to recover his sunken Catalina 24 (capsized in a squall with companionway open) in one of the deepest sections of the Chesapeake Bay. I used it to recover a dinghy outboard motor at my dock (dropped motor when I loss my balance setting motor on a dinghy).

And all this time I thought “Some” was your middle name. So it’s really “some cheap guy”? Are you related to the Guys of Beverly Hills?
