Missing fuel filters??

Hi - I bought my boat just over a year ago (2008 45CC). In prepping for new season we found some new fuel filters, but cannot locate any external filters. Just the one on the engine. The owners manual reads as though they are standard. If true, where the heck are they? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Kirsten, start at the engine filter and follow the fuel line back to the tank. If there is a filter you'll discover it.

We did that. Must have been an option. Only one found is integrated with the engine. Thanks!

Most unusual. I thought that was a standard installation on all inboard Hunters.

Well if you've checked, then you don't have another filter. I would recommend installing another filter upstream of the engine mounted filter to keep water and other crud from getting to your existing filter. Once that starts coming through, it plugs very quickly. There may be large deposits in your fuel tank which can become dislodged by rough seas.

The engine filter you have is 1-2 micron while the filter you will be purchasing is 10 micron. Talk to a reliable marine diesel shop in your area and get their recommendations for a pre-filter. Your engine will love you for it.

Kirsten, No problem. You can add one if desired. Here is an example of the one I installed for my Perkins 4.107 diesel. It is a Racor 500M. I added the Vacuum gauge on the engine side of the filter to tell me when a filter change is needed. Install is ease project.

On my 45cc the primary racor filter is located under aft bed. Acess is gained by removing the drawers under bed on port side

If you don't have another filter upstream you should definitely install one. The finer one on the engine will plug up quicker if you don't. I'm guessing there is one somewhere between the engine and tank.

The fuel filter that you are looking for in located below the bed in the aft cabin. At the foot of the bed there are 4 pull out drawers, Remove the bottom right hand drawer ALL the way, if you pull it out and then lift up on it you can fully remove it. Then look into the space and you will see the other fuel filter.
Let me know if this works for you.

You guys are great! I looked under the port side of the aft bed last night and nothing was there. Must have gotten side tracked because I didn't look on the starboard side. Just did and vuala - there it is. (smile)

Thank you!!
