Missing Florida Boater - help requested

Hello,
I am the brother of the missing boater, asking that you keep your eyes open for this boat.
The boat name is Know Patience. I am thinking that it is sitting somewhere in the Jacksonville area, it may be sitting in one of the canals or could be a one of the boating yards.
The boat could also be up for sale at one of the brokers. It is a 36 foot Beneteau, I am not sure of the year; I will try to post some photos. The last time the boat was seen was on 9/15 off Cape Canaveral. My brother Mike may not have phone service anymore, since we are unable to contact him.
The Coast Guard and my family need any help we can get.
So please keep your eyes open for him and pass along this information to anyone you think can help. Below is a link to a news story regarding him…

Someone emailed me a picture of a boat part and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on if it maybe a part of my brothers boat? The piece doesn't look familar but it has been awhile since I was on the boat, 36 foot Beneteau, 2003.
I am not sure where he found it, I have requested that he call me and I will find out if it was from the upper east coast of FL.

Sbritt, I hope hey find your brother safe. The part doesn't look right for a sailboat but I also do not own a Beneteau. If you see a boat for sale that you think may be Know Patience check the hull ID. This functions much like the VIN in a car. Your brother's boat is hull ID:sbritt11 said:

I would suggest posting this on the sister forum as well called Cruisers Forum. The folks there are pretty mobile and may have seen something or at least maybe passed the boat at some point. They may also have suggestions I do not. There are emergency pathways over SSB that may be of help too but I have no experience with those and they may. Best of luck on your search. SC
That is 1/2 of an aftermarket 'saloon door' set for a sailboat's companionway. Common in the semi-tropics on boats with AC. Looking that the pictures, both that door and the companionway of the boat in question are narrow, so it MIGHT fit. That being said, I cannot see the doors or hinges in that boat picture.
You never said; is you brother aware people are looking for him, and in fact does he want to be found? That would help people to know how to look.

I am sorry to say that we still have not found the boat or my brother. We are closing in on 5 months on Feb 16th since we last heard from him off the coast of Cape Canaveral, on his way to Jacksonville, FL. Myself or anyone else in our family are not boaters, but he has been sailing and living on the boat for the last 6 years, so we figure he probably has seen it all on the open waters.
He had all the required safety items required by the Coast Guard, but he did not have some of the optional items that would have made it easy for anyone to find him if the boat went down or took on water. We are assuming that it has went down and nothing else happened and whatever happened, prevented him from getting to his life jackets.
Based on the emotions of the family that he has left behind, who loved him dearly, please equip your boats with devices, such beacons, as this would make your boats easier to find and alert authorities. You don't want to put your loved ones thru this, just as my brother thought, that if something was to happen, he would have time to react, this was not the case. I am not sure what happens in open water, so I don't know what could have happened, to him. I just know that he never bought anything unless he needed it.
It is tough to assume that the boat has went down and that he and his boat are sitting on the bottom of the ocean, I am dealing with a family who finds it difficult to comprehend that no one can find him or the boat and there is nothing we can do. We can't just jump in the water and look for miles around to see if we can see the boat. Just a couple of months ago, a Navy plane was discovered off the coast of West Palm Beach, that has been there for 50+ years and no one knew it was there, I used that example when trying to explain it logically to my parents. I have learned that emotions are much stronger then logic. With time, logic will prevail.
As I understand these beacons are not required, and making them required would require a change in the law. Also I am not saying that if my brother had one it would have saved him, but would have given him a chance. Also changing the law to aid in something that happens rarely is not practical.

I am so sorry to hear this. If they haven't found him or the boat there is still a slight possibility that he will eventually turn up.

No, he would contact us by now. He was on his way to Jacksonville to store the boat and start a new job. He never made it to his new job. We have searched all the marinas from Coco Beach to Jacksonville, plus boat storage areas. Also we have looked at all the mooring fields, but can't find him.
He has not accessed his bank account, his phone is no longer working and his email box is full. My mom wrote him notes everyday, but they started coming back since the email box is full. That was a real heart break for her.
Do you know his last phone call cell tower location? maybe a clue altho a long time now. wishing you the best

While PM may be faster, I believe in putting things out in public. So many have sent me emails and then get pissed off when I reply on the forum. But I contend that is what forums are for, freedom of expression.
As to the Slocum comments, and I received private emails in addition to comments made in other thread, Slocum was sailing in hurricane season before we had hurricane reporting ...
And as to P.M. about hitting barge and sinking immediately, well maybe, but my point is to make the discussion broader and involve more sailors who might make a comment.
I think Mr. Britt's comments show us something wrong happened. So, collectively let those of us on east coast investigate more.
The report of the Coast Guard would be enlightening and the answer to his last cell phone call might help.
Maybe he forgot to use a lanyard and fell overboard and the boat sailed on ...
At the very least, more of us aware of the kind of boat and last known location might yield some info.
Did we have hurricane after his last known location? Would that boat survive a hurricane?
I am not a experienced blue water sailor. I stay in sight of land. But I have seen 6 to 8 foot waves...

Very sorry to hear of this. There are thousands of local sailors along the Florida waterfront. There are probably many that have a keen eye for what boats are coming and going - but they may not be paying attention to the net. It would be time well spent to visit the marinas and waterfront bars and leave a picture and phone number with as many places as possible. Wish you the best of luck.
I have pushed the information to my brother who lives in Jacksonville, and flies maritime patrol flights for the Navy out of NAS Jax. He can post it to the watch list at the air station to see if anyone on a training run has any information.
