Missing drain plug in 17' O'Day

I recently bought an old, maybe 30 years old, Day Sailer. It is in pretty good shape, but has a drain hole in the bottom with no plug. The hole has a metal thread and is about 3/4 of an inch in diameter. I put a plastic plug in it and caulked it, but wonder what is supposed to go in there. Where can I get a more permanent plug?

Ed -There have been a host of different fittings like the one you describe over the years. It will not be hard to find one to fit now. I would take the old fitting to your local marine supplier and ask them for something to match. You will likely have to buy both the fitting and the plug, but they're not very expensive.Justin - O'day Owners' Web
